Can I book an extra if I'm not attending the conference?
No, you need a general admission ticket to purchase any Extras. This also applies to any online sessions run before the conference
What is a manuscript Assessment
A manuscript assessment is a twelve minute one-to-one meeting with an attending publisher of your choice (depending on availability), to discuss your manuscript. You will submit your work to the publisher (via KidLitVic) prior to your assessment Each publisher has their own style of providing feedback. This may be oral or written or both. We advise that you take notes during your assessment meeting.
Do I have to have my submission ready when I book my assessment?
No but you will need to have your submission ready and submitted by the submission due date.
I am in the illustration showcase but have an illustration assessment or pitch Plus.. Can I grab my folio from the showcase for my assessment or pitch plus?
Yes, the illustration showcase will be on show all day, so if you have a portfolio assessment or pitch plus , you simply allow enough time to take it from the showcase then return once done!
With the assessments, do we know in advance whether the publisher will provide written or oral feedback? Or should be prepared for either/both?
No, each publisher gives feedback differently, so you won't know until you are in the assessment.
Can I include a book dummy with my portfolio showcase?
No, you are only able to display your portfolio (Max A3, 10 single pages or 5 double pages)
I am an author/illustrator, can I include illustrations with my manuscript assessment?
No. A manuscript assessment is an assessment on the text only. You can only submit the manuscript.
You are welcome to bring some sample illustrations on the day of the conference at your face to face meeting.
How many pages can I include in my Illustration Showcase?
Your portfolio can be max A3 size, with either 10 x single pages or 5 x double pages. You can
include multiple illustrations on one page.
How do I submit my work for the assessments?
After you purchase an Assessment you will emailed the Manuscript Assessment Submission Guidelines.
When I submit my work can I be confident that it won’t be shared without my authorisation?
Certainly. The KidLitVic team prides itself on the confidentiality of all work and information submitted. Your work will only be passed on to the publisher that you have purchased an assessment with.What is an Up Close and Personal Session?
At KidLitVic 2025, you will have the opportunity to sit in on a small group (only 5 other delegates) to meet, ask questions and chat ‘up close and personal’ with an attending publisher .
What is a Pitch Plus?
Each session will give you the chance to have an individual 12 minute meeting with two publishing professionals at the same time. You will be able to introduce yourself, chat with the publishers about what you’re working on and why, and share a sample of your work. You may read a picture book OR a short synopsis and first page of a longer work OR share your Dummy book if you are an author/illustrator OR share your portfolio. If you are writing a series, you will be able to pitch this to the publishers. The publishing professionals will then give you feedback, advice and guidance.
Can I have digital portfolio? (Ipad etc...)
No. We can’t offer power or security for any electronic devices.Can I have two or three illustrations on one page?
Yes, but there can only be 10 pages in total.Can I leave postcards or business cards beside my illustration portfolio?
Yes.Can I include original artwork in my illustration portfolio?
No. Please only include printed copies of your illustrations.
